Harstine Island is located west of the Case Inlet in the southern part of Puget Sound. It was named after Lieutenant Henry J Harstene by commanding officer US Navy Lieutenant Charles Wilkes.
Fast forward to modern day, Harstine Island housed a 215 acre tree farm owned by forest product mogul Weyerhaeuser. It was developed as a recreation community to Seattleites. Now, it is a fantastic place for boating, fishing, backpacking and relaxing. The Pacific Northwest is one of the most popular places for cruising on small craft in America and Harstine Island is a prime example of why it’s so popular offering many complex waterways to explore and a friendly marina with ample space to dock as well as many buoys available at the state park.
